Map how MCD tests could fit into Australia’s healthcare
Successfully introducing multi-cancer detection (MCD) tests into Australia’s healthcare system will require more than understanding how the tests perform. It will also require clear, practical pathways for follow-up care, strong support from health professionals, and approaches that meet the needs of Australians.
This component of the MCD Spotlight work consists of three interconnected research activities that together examine how MCD tests could be embedded into real-world care in Australia.
- Mapping potential clinical follow-up investigations for people with cancer signal detected by an MCD test.
- Assessing the acceptability of MCD tests to health professionals, including barriers and enablers for successful implementation.
- Exploring public preferences for potential use of MCD tests in Australia, to identify future patient-centred approaches.
This work will help build a comprehensive picture of how MCD tests could be embedded into existing healthcare systems in Australia and what supports are needed for successful implementation. This work will help lay the foundation for future implementation trials and ensure that any adoption of MCD testing in Australia is aligned with the needs of the public, health professionals, and works well within the broader healthcare system.
